Tia Juana’s Beach Cantina and
Donavon Frankenreiter’s Margarita House
Now Open in Ka’anapali

Lahaina, HI – California residents Bob Diehl, Paco Miller and Brad Prescott have teamed up with pro-surfer-musician Donavon Frankenreiter to open “Donavon Frankenreiter’s Magarita House” and “Tia Juana’s Beach Cantina” in Ka’anapali Beach on Maui.  At the grand opening festivities over the weekend of September 25th -26th Donavon and his friend, pro-surfer and Hawaiian legend Titus Kinimaka entertained locals, Maui dignitaries and invited guests in a high energy, two-day event.  “The grand opening was absolutely fantastic,” says partner Bob Diehl.  “Donavon was outstanding and the vibe couldn’t have been better.”

For years, the partners traveled to Maui to vacation with their families and they always noted that while there are many nice, expensive restaurants in Ka’anapali, there was neither good Mexican food nor any good value restaurants for locals or visitors. Their idea to open a Mexican food restaurant and Margarita House in Maui germinated two years ago and the doors opened for business last week to an enthusiastic crowd.

Donavon’s personal collection of vintage surfboards, guitars, vinyl albums and classic amplifiers cover the walls and ceiling of the Margarita House downstairs, along with a little taco window for golfers who want to grab a quick bite on their way to the tee box.  The full bar boasts hand-crafted margaritas with fresh squeezed juices and over 100 premium tequilas.  Donavon will make frequent visits to entertain and tend the bar.

Upstairs, the Beach Cantina features poplar and mango woods, ostrich-skin booths, giant lanais with colorful cushions, slate, copper and a beautiful, large bar that is a visual feast for the eyes. Chef Marco Colin, originally from central Mexico, wows diners with centuries-old family recipes, hand-made tortillas, fresh ceviche, lobster tacos, grilled Caesar wedges with shrimp and pepita dressing, and entrees such as steak Tampiqueno and grilled chicken Diablo.

The original Tia Juana’s has been a success story in Irvine, California for over 20 years.  Maui’s location is 7,000 square feet and is at the entrance to Ka’anapali, right on the golf course.
